The military hired the services of Quartermasters and Boat Operators to direct the piloting and navigation of small water crafts such as barges, tug boats, and gun boats. These boats are used for amphibious landings of troops. They are considered enlisted personnel in the military organization.
Role
The usual duties and responsibilities of Quartermasters and boat operators in the military organization include:
Spearhead in directing the boats speed during navigation
Use weather report equipments to identify weather conditions necessary for safe navigations
Navigate tug boats when towing large vessels and docking barges
Navigate amphibious crafts when troops are landing for specific missions
Conduct regular maintenance on deck equipment and boats
Record ship activities especially during missions ans other important events
