Job specification
The military runs vehicles and electrical engines and sometimes these equipments experienced break down but the parts cannot be available. The only thing they can do is to repair the broken parts. This work requires the expertise of Machinists. They can repair all types of engine parts using grinders, drill presses and lathes. They are considered enlisted personnel in the military organization.
Role
The usual duties and responsibilities of Machinists in the military include:
• Make a check and study of how the parts can be re-assembled for reuse purposes in times there are no available parts
• Use lathes and gears to set up the making of the parts needed
• Use band saws and hacksaw to cut metals that would be used for the parts to be made
• Make holes by the use of power tools available in the shop
• Check the reliability of the created engine parts using gauges such as calipers, depth gauges and micrometers
Ideal traits
The field of study which is helpful in this kind of job in the military includes mechanical drawing, metal working and general science. Other helpful attributes includes:
• Excellent skills in the application of mathematical formulas when designing the engine parts to be made
• Enthusiasm in looking for solutions to problems that may arise anytime
• The ability to perform and execute work by the use of bare hands

Classroom instructions as well as actual experience in related jobs include:
• Basic procedures of the use of machines
• Basics in setting up machines during working hours
• Basics in using various metals
• Safety procedures which can help prevent accidents

The machinists work in industrial and metal manufacturing companies, repair shops, factories, vehicle manufacturing companies and schools. Their duties and responsibilities are also the same with that of the military.
