Medical Service Technicians

Job specification

When the military personnel are in combat zones and few members gets wounded physicians are not always available to take care of the wounded soldiers. In this situation, the medical service technicians provide the service of taking care of the wounded in lieu of the physicians. They give emergency treatment to wounded combatants and officers.


The usual duties and responsibilities of Medical Service Technicians in the military chain of command include:

• Take care of emergency treatment to wounded soldiers in the line of fire or battle field

• Conduct interview to patients and get their medical histories

• Monitor patient’s blood pressure, pulse and temperature

• Get blood samples from patients for laboratory tests

• Record and update clinical files of patients

• Provide medicines to patients

The field of study which is helpful in this kind of job in the military includes algebra, psychology, chemistry and general science. Other helpful attributes also include:

• Excellent communication skills

• Enthusiasm in working under pressure and difficult situations

The Medical service technicians in the military organization work in military clinics, hospitals and on board ships when the need arises.

Non-military employment

The civilian Medical service technicians work in private clinics of physicians, private and government hospitals, home for the aged and other homecare facilities. Their work is similar to that in the military.
